屏東縣自104年以專案會議跨局處整合新住民照顧服務工作至今，隨著新住民事務益發多元，各項新住民政策推動需有更正式且長期的推動機制。屏東縣政府今年為鼓勵新住民參與公共事務，讓新住民業務更為組織化、制度化，決議成立新住民事務推動小組，邀集相關專家學者，新住民代表也是前國策顧問胡清嫻及烙畫藝術家林峰擔任新住民小組委員，提供政策建言，落實推動屏東新住民照顧服務，以具體行動力挺新住民。
吳麗雪副縣長表示，台灣是個移民之島，自民國90年代開始，國際家庭戶數急速上升，屏東縣的新住民人數截至109年3月已有1萬9572人，在台灣排名第8位，其中以中國大陸最多，其次為越南、印尼等國家。新住民崛起讓屏東注入新的文化元素，新二代的傳承讓屏東各角落融入多元的文化。
