由於文化部對於重建臺灣美術史的重視與關注，國立臺灣美術館館長梁永斐日前積極宣示將於明(110)年辦理三檔資深藝術家研究個展，期待以國家美術館的角色，將研究及展覽的能量擴及到長期投入藝術創作的前輩藝術家，讓社會大眾看見藝術家深耕藝術領域的用心與影響力。
繼拜訪臺中在地的資深藝術家陳銀輝教授後，梁永斐館長與同仁親訪藝術家何肇衢，洽談展覽及座談等相關活動。藝術家何肇衢1931年出生於新竹，是臺灣戰後第一代傑出畫家，受到身為畫師的父親影響，從小耳濡目染，中學時受到美術老師的鼓勵，因而對美術產生濃厚興趣，就讀於臺北師範學校藝術科時，便參展、獲獎不斷，曾連續三年榮獲台陽美術展，更因此殊榮，獲得前輩畫家李梅樹的推薦成為臺陽美術協會的會員。自1960年代開始，陸續前往日本、東南亞及歐美各國參觀美術館及寫生，藉由實地親訪、觀摩，不斷學習，畫風由具象開始，融入立體派和抽象繪畫的概念，作品中可見鮮明的色彩與大塊面分割，塑造出爽朗、明快的風格，與藝術家本人正面、堅毅的性格不謀而合。
雖然年近90歲，藝術家何肇衢仍十分爽朗健談，談及年少時期家境清苦，創作多以自學為主，他以「萬年學生｣自稱，強調隨時都在學習精進，家中藏書相當豐富，信手拈來均是國內外展覽的畫冊，隨口提及便可立刻取出翻閱、討論，更令人注目的是每每由國外壯遊返國，便將收集的藝術作品明信片整理成冊，成為重要的參考資料。此外，也可見滿滿的油畫創作，以臺灣各地的風景為主題，他四處旅遊、寫生，以實際的景色進行變化，運用明快的線條與塊面、大膽的色彩，記錄各地的風土民情，相當能引起觀者的共鳴。
梁永斐館長強調，資深藝術家用生命投入創作，並互相扶持，為臺灣的藝術文化留下眾多精采的寶藏，隨口說出便是一部精采深刻的美術史，國美館肯定資深藝術家堅持的創作精神，期待藉由資深藝術家的研究個展及相關活動，記錄其豐沛的創作能量，深化並傳承，讓國人看見更多藝術文化累積的重要果實。
